Ybor City-based gr8code is expected to receive $5.4 million in venture capital over the next four years.
The funding from OmniElite Financial Group is believed to be the largest venture investment ever awarded to a woman-owned business in Florida, according toDaniel James Scott, associate director of entrepreneurship at University of South Florida St. Petersburg.
In winning venture backing, gr8code is bucking a national trend. A recent report byBabson College found that less than 3 percent of the 6,793 companies that received $51 billion in venture capital from 2011 to 2013 were women-led startups. Read more here.
