Fort Lauderdale-based DirectTips has secured $1.5 million in an initial capital raise for Tippy, a digital tipping system for beauty professionals.

The app, which has been in its testing stage for a year and is expected to officially launch in August, allows customers to directly tip stylists. Beauty professionals can use Tippy to track all of their tips and income, and receive notifications every time they get tipped through the app.

Douglas Von Allmen, founder of Beauty Alliance, led the funding round. His company, a distributor of professional beauty supplies, was acquired by L’Oreal, the world’s largest beauty company, in 2007. He’s also an investor in BehindTheChair.com, an online community of more than 600,000 salon professionals.
