Arlington, Va.-based satellite company OneWeb LLC has not yet launched a single satellite to space to begin its massive push for a more than 700-device constellation, but it already is requesting approval from the Federal Communications Commission to have more.

In a written proposal to the FCC on March 19, OneWeb requested that it be approved to launch 1,260 satellites to space, bringing its total to nearly 2,000 spacecraft. The reason for the decision to expand its fleet of satellites: the FCC’s decision in September to give companies more time to fully develop their satellite constellations.
