While some groups try to find a debris-free path to space for some rocket and satellite firms by analysis of the direction from Earth, one university is finding a way to sweep up junk in low Earth orbit.

The Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon capsule spacecraft that Elon Musk-owned rocket company SpaceX launched from Cape Canaveral to the International Space Station on April 2 carried United Kingdom-based University of Surrey’s RemoveDebris experiment. The high-tech experiment is the latest invention to help bust down the many small pieces of material floating in low Earth orbit that can hinder future space travel.
