Miami-based CareCloud Health agreed to pay $3.8 million to settle allegations that it paid kickbacks to clients to boost sales of its electronic health records software.

CareCloud offered credits and cash payments to existing clients through a marketing referral program known as the Champions Program from 2012 to 2017, according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. In exchange, those clients recommended CareCloud’s electronic health records services and products to other potential customers.
