Why this big bank wants to help Florida social entrepreneurs change the world

BBVA Compass is opening its Momentum accelerator to social entrepreneurs in Florida and six other Sunbelt states.

The five-month accelerator program provides training and potential funding to startups that aim to have a positive social impact as well as make money.

The bank is part of Madrid-based Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA (NYSE: BBVA) and its purpose is “to bring the age of opportunity to everyone,” said Reymundo Ocañas, director of corporate responsibility and reputation. “The program tries to put that purpose into motion.”
