VR labs countersues against Lee County

Lee County faces a new twist to its legal battle to recover $4.7 million it gave to a high-tech health drink startup.

VR Labs Inc. filed a counterclaim against Lee County on Wednesday, alleging the county and its employees and commissioners were the reason that it failed to create any jobs.

The central argument in the counterclaim is that the general contractor retained by VR Labs to build its Alico Road bottling plant unjustly filed a lien against the company for unpaid work. VR Labs’s countersuit goes on to say that in 2012 then-Commissioner Tammy Hall used her influence to benefit GCM Contracting Solutions Inc. in its dispute with VR Labs.
