Heru, a spinoff company from the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, raised $30 million in a Series A funding round led by New York-based D1 Capital Partners.
SoftBank Ventures Opportunity Fund, Miami-based Krillion Ventures and several other investors, including Insightec CEO Maurice R. Ferré, participated in the Series A round. Ferré is the founder and former chairman of Mako Surgical (acquired by Stryker for $1.6 billion) and chairman of the board of Memic Innovative Surgery, a Fort Lauderdale and Israel-based medical device company.
