Tampa philanthropists put a unique spin on ‘Shark Tank’ for nonprofits

The Tampa Bay chapter of a national philanthropic organization is bringing a staple of the venture capital world — a quick pitch for funding to a room full of investors — to the local nonprofit community.

But the group, Social Venture Partners Tampa Bay, is putting a twist on the Bay area’s first “Fast Pitch” competition. Ten nonprofits chosen as finalists for Fast Pitch will first get a chance to take part in a two-month accelerator program, taking part in workshops on finance, marketing, sales, leadership and management, as well as one-on-one coaching from a Social Venture Partners mentor.
