Tampa Bay’s pitch for Amazon’s HQ2 is headed to Seattle

Tampa Bay is a talent magnet.

That’s how Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn starts off the area’s pitch to Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN), in a video that’s part of a response to the online retail giant’s request for proposals for a second headquarters site, a $5 billion project that could employ up to 50,000 people at an average annual wage of more than $100,000.

Pinellas County Economic Development, St. Petersburg Area Economic Development Corp. and Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp. collaborated on a regional response. Cooperation that spanned both sides of Tampa Bay sends a key message, said J.P. DuBuque, president of the St. Petersburg Area Economic Development Corp.
