SpaceIL’s historic lunar lander attempt ends with crash on moon

    An Israel-based aerospace company’s attempt to make its country the fourth to put a spacecraft on the moon — and the the first private company to ever do so — ended with a crash landing.

    Nonprofit aerospace firm SpaceIL’s Beresheet lunar lander began its landing process on the moon around 3:05 p.m. eastern standard time today, April 11. However, during the landing process, the lander’s engines failed, resulting it in crashing into the moon’s surface.
