Scripps president discusses research mission, new philanthropic fund

Visiting the island Thursday as president of Scripps Research Institute, Steve Kay brought along top scientists in fields such as molecular therapeutics, neuroscience, and metabolism and aging. At Scripps Florida, a biomedical research facility in Jupiter, these scientists are making important discoveries.

“Their job is to come into work every day and to see something new in Mother Nature that nobody else in the world has ever seen before,” Kay said.

Ron Davis, one of the scientists who visited the town, had just been announced Wednesday as the recipient of a $2 million grant to study the role of single neurons in memory and aging.
