For the second time in a row, an Orlando startup has won a global competition hosted by a well-known tech accelerator group — an achievement that shows the strength of innovative ideas coming out of the city.

Boulder, Colo.-based accelerator Techstars announced Dec. 13 that Orlando-based GamerMeetups.com won its Global Startup Weekend showcase, rising above 1,000 other startup firms that were created in three days or less. This is big news, as the multi-site event had more than 10,000 attendees in 61 countries. Techstars could not be reached for comment.

The idea and team for GamerMeetups.com first formed in November during Orlando Startup Weekend event. At the local event, 70 attendees pitched 42 business ideas and formed nine teams. Each team had 54 hours to form their idea, build a business model, a method for growth and more — creating a full business within a short time. Out of those teams, GamerMeetups.com became the overall winner, went on to win the regional competition and competed with six firms to win the global showcase.
