New software to help doctors pinpoint better treatment for cancer patients

Salvadore Gerace knew a platform for doctors to chat among themselves about which cancer treatments work best for certain patients would lead to better results.

That’s how software company ProKnow Systems was born — a firm that’s creating a way for medical practitioners to get patient-proven results to fight cancer, said Gerace, the company’s chief technology officer.

ProKnow Systems — a spinoff of Sanford-based medical equipment maker .Decimal Inc. — last year created a database of cancer treatment studies for doctors to review and compare, to pinpoint the best treatment methods for their own patients. The firm already has 3,300 physicians, physicists and therapists who use its database.
