A local school district is boosting the area’s workforce training options by building one of Florida’s first environmental-focused science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) schools.

The Lake County School District plans to build a $33 million, 160,000-square-foot school on 50 acres at 800 U.S. Highway 27 in Clermont. The three-story, E-STEM school — which will accommodate up to 1,200 students from kindergarten through eighth grade — is a multiwing concept with a STEM lab for all grade levels, skill career labs for subjects like culinary arts and media labs.
