Moon Express to double staff; aims for 2018 lunar mission

Cape Canaveral-based private aerospace company Moon Express is getting a bit more time to prepare for its lunar mission that may net the firm $30 million.

Google Lunar XPRIZE, the competition from tech-giant Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG) that will give $30 million to the first company to land a rover spacecraft on the moon, recognized that its five finalists are not quite far enough along to launch before the end of the year. The competition now has a March 31, 2018, deadline — something that may draw a sigh of relief from Bob Richards, CEO of Moon Express.
