Miami is a long shot to land Amazon HQ2, FIU analysis shows

South Florida ranks low among the 20 finalists still in the running to snare’s second headquarters, according to a new analysis by economics researchers at Florida International University.

In January, Seattle-based Amazon published a list of 20 places in North America that could one day be home to a second headquarters. HQ2, as the corporate hub has come to be known, is expected to house as many as 50,000 Amazon workers, a significant share of which would earn salaries above $100,000 a year.

Compared to the 19 other finalists on the e-commerce giant’s shortlist – which includes Atlanta, New York and Boston – Miami is a long shot, the FIU Metropolitan Center assessment shows.
