Florida’s Space Coast may not be the prime location where rockets are built, but it is where most rockets are launched. And that form of business creates jobs, too.
Following the U.S. Air Force’s recent cluster of defense contracts — awarding three aerospace firms funding totaling a combined $2.2 billion in value to build to next era of rockets — many of those companies either already are hiring or plan to hire more workers to support the increase in manufacturing and launch activity.
And building and launching new rockets is not the only part of the $330 billion global space business that is growing. Space capsules that will carry astronauts to the International Space Station, to the moon and beyond also will be launched from Florida’s Space Coast and some are being built in the area, too.
