Local firm to grow millions of heads of lettuce in Washington warehouse

Orlando-based Kalera plans to build a 75,000 square-foot “vertical farm” in a Lacey, Washington, warehouse, where about five dozen workers will grow millions of heads of lettuce a year.

With legal cannabis, indoor grow operations totaling about 1.3 million square feet operate in Washington, according to the state, so indoor farming is not new there. But growing produce using cleanroom technology, as Kalera will do, is uncommon and possibly new to that area. Read more here.
