How UCF earned nearly $4M in patent licensing in 2017 and why that’s a big win for local biz

More entrepreneurs are using the University of Central Florida as a resource for research and innovation, according to the school’s technology transfer data.

In 2017, UCF’s Office of Technology Transfer reported 57 U.S. patents issued, 106 patent applications filed, 36 licenses and options issued to companies and entrepreneurs, and a total of $3.9 million earned from licensing income. which includes licensing fees and royalties.

The nearly $4 million licensing income is double the nearly $2 million made in 2016, and a giant leap from $1 million made five years ago.
