How NASA lures Blue Origin and others to Cape Canaveral to create jobs


A decade ago, Tom Engler and others at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center set out to build an aerospace hub “that didn’t exist anywhere else on Earth.” 

For that to work, the federal space agency needed commercial companies to come to Kennedy Space Center’s 140,000-acre Brevard County campus. To do that, the agency relaxed some regulations and offered up more than $1 billion in assets for use by private firms, said Engler, Kennedy Space Center’s director of center planning and development.
