Florida could lose ground in economic development race, researcher says

Florida needs to fight the national rumors that it’s “out of the economic development business,” public policy researcher Dale Brill said during an interview Wednesday.

“They can’t do that fast enough. Competitors are telling everyone we’re closed for business,” he said.

The state legislature in its spring session refused to give Gov. Rick Scott the $250 million in economic development funds he requested to attract companies to the state and create jobs. Enterprise Florida director Bill Johnson has since resigned.
