Florida International University was recently issued a patent for technology that has been in development for 10 years. Now, the private sector will decide how it’s used.
FIU scientists Sakhrat Khizroev and Rakesh Guduru invented a magnetic battery technology that can be used to quickly power and recharge devices as small as a smartphone or as large as an electric car.
The goal of the invention is to replace today’s chemistry-based batteries, which are slow to recharge, with their new solution for energy storage. The next step is to develop a prototype with a company that wants to use the technology for its devices. That could take a few months, or longer.
