FIU professor launches app to tackle kids language development issue

A professor at Miami’s Florida International University has created a mobile application to address vocabulary deficiencies in children from low-income families.

Called Háblame Bebé (or Talk to Me, Baby), the app targets a phenomenon known as “word gap” that occurs when children from poor backgrounds hear significantly fewer words compared to children from higher-income environments. In some cases, the difference in word exposure is as big as 3 million, studies say.
