Blaire Martin is the CEO of Activate Florida, the VP of Strategic Partnerships at Florida Funders, the CEO/cofounder of the Florida Angel Nexus, and a cofounder of the FAN Fund, Blaire has aided investors to deploy capital into early-stage Florida businesses and prepared entrepreneurs to raise capital since 2012. At Everix Optical Filters, she is focused on capitalizing upcoming critical milestones, managing the spending plan, and supporting the company to create significant revenue and returns for investors. She is a past honoree of the UCF Alumni 30 under 30.

Vanessa Zabala is the Director of Impact Development for the Orlando Economic Partnership, leading the organization’s internal intrapreneurship initiatives and deploying innovation capacity programs to external stakeholders. Vanessa’s consulting experience includes strategic planning, business revenue stream validation, customer development, channel distribution analyses and more for clients such as Boeing, Publix, Orange Seal, FL Humanities Council, and more.

Blaire and Vanessa worked together at the FAN fund. In this joint session, we will have two parts.
Part One, covered by Blaire will talk about her experience as CEO of FAN where she led and collaborated on many local investments. She will share learnings from those investments on how innovation practices were correlated with success. Starting a new business can be risky, expensive, and time consuming – learning these lessons from local startups will help you make the right decisions.
Part Two, covered by Vanessa will be a fast-paced workshop to introduce Lean Startup tools. You will get hands-on experience on how lean tools can help you tackle a wide range of issues from starting a company to making a process more efficient.

The Florida Simulation Summit is a collaborative partnership between Orange County Government, the National Center for Simulation and the Orlando Economic Partnership. The summit highlights the strong progress, synergy and development of Central Florida’s multibillion-dollar Modeling, Simulation and Training (MS&T) industry as a showcase to the state, nation and beyond. The industry has strong roots in the defense sector and over time has diversified into other clusters such as life sciences, healthcare, sports, gaming and engineering.

Following the summit, the event will also incorporate the Florida TechMatch — a technology industry B2B matchmaking event.
