BitPay, the minds behind the digital currency Bitcoin, have agreed to sign on as the title sponsor for the bowl game played at Tropicana Field in St. Pete, which will now be called the Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl. The agreement runs through the 2016 season.
The game will kick off at 8 p.m. on Dec. 26, 2014 and will air on ESPN.
“Our goal is to continue to move bitcoin into the mainstream and sponsoring the St. Petersburg Bowl offers us that opportunity,” Tony Gallippi, Executive Chairman for BitPay said in a statement. “College football fans and the bitcoin community represent a similar target demographic – tech-savvy men between the ages of 18 and 40.” Read more here.
