AOL co-founder’s investment in local startups may put Orlando’s tech scene on the map, identify talent for big firms


A co-founder for a company that was a well-known early pioneer for internet service is betting a half-million dollars that Florida has technology startups worth paying attention to. 

Steve Case, co-founder of AOL — formally known as America Online — was not surprised when 75 percent of all venture capital investments in the U.S. took place in California, New York and Massachusetts, but he felt something was amiss when Florida — the third-largest state — only accounted for less than 2 percent of venture capital deals.
