It’s been compared to driving a horse-driven buggy on a dirt road versus racing a Ferrari down the Audobon. That’s how huge a difference a full build-out of Google Fiber in Jacksonville could be.
In one the biggest technology advances for the metro, Google announced Wednesday it was exploring bringing its high-speed Internet service to the region, potentially boosting broadband speeds of one gigabit per second, about 85 percent higher than average.
Heading up the exploration for Google Fiber in Jacksonville is Sunny Gettinger, who has worked remotely for Google for eight years. Gettinger said Jacksonville has a reputation for “always looking to grow — and this is obviously an opportunity to leverage.”
